The Georgia Bulldogs’ wide receiver corps had a severe blow last fall when senior Colbie Young was suspended indefinitely following his arrest on October 8, 2024, on misdemeanor counts of abuse and assault on an unborn child. The event entailed a fight with his ex-girlfriend at his Athens residence. Young was released on a $3,800 bond and denied causing any injury, with his counsel claiming he did not engage in any criminal physical contact.
Young was a big contributor to the Bulldogs’ offense before his suspension, with 11 receptions for 149 yards and two scores in the first five games of the season. His absence had an impact on Georgia’s wide receiver depth, resulting in greater duties for players like London Humphreys, Sacovie White, Anthony Evans III, Nitro Tuggle, and Michael Jackson III In the weeks after his arrest, Young’s ex-girlfriend recanted her allegations, claiming in an affidavit that he did not injure her or her unborn child and asked that the charges be withdrawn.
Despite this, Young was suspended from game participation, but the University of Georgia’s Equal Opportunity Office eventually permitted him to return to practice. In January 2025, Young pled no contest to disorderly behavior, which resulted in the discharge of his assault allegation.Head coach Kirby Smart confirmed that Young was reinstated to the team and would be eligible to play in the upcoming season. Young’s return strengthens the Bulldogs’ receiving unit as they prepare for the 2025 season. His experience and previous contributions are expected to play a vital role in Georgia’s offensive strategy moving forward.
