The Atlanta Falcons have been looking into Kirk Cousins’ alternatives for some time now, and they appear to be getting close to finding the ideal team to make a deal with. GM Terry Fontenot has been calling several teams interested in Cousins to discuss potential trades.
The Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers remain the top clubs, and both are still seeking for a quarterback. With Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett already on the roster, the Browns may consider drafting a quarterback.
The Steelers, on the other hand, are desperately trying to sign Aaron Rodgers, who remains undecided about his NFL future. If the Steelers do not sign Rodgers, they will be the team to keep an eye on for a Cousins trade.
The Falcons’ recent struggles have been exacerbated by the amount they are potentially asking teams to pay in terms of Cousins’ guaranteed salary. Cousins is owed $45 million, and the Falcons have reportedly requested teams to pay around $20 million.
Fontenot remarked that he does not have a specific amount in mind for how much he would like teams to spend for the guaranteed wage. The Falcons are also concerned about Cousins’ full no-trade provision, which states that he may reject any deal to a team that will not start him.
Cousins is currently attending voluntary workouts and working hard to prepare for next season.
