The New York Mets are 18-7 to begin the season. The Mets’ key players, Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso, have been able to disguise some of their shortcomings, but that may not last much longer. The Mets will eventually get reinforcements back from injury in the starting rotation, but they may need to trade for an upgrade in center field. Tyrone Taylor and Jose Siri have struggled to start the season, and Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes the Mets are the best landing point for Chicago White Sox’s Luis Robert Jr. in a trade.
“FanGraphs has both Tyrone Taylor and Jose Siri down for both negative offense and negative defense during their time spent in CF this season, combining for negative-0.4 fWAR,” according to Miller. “Baseball Reference is slightly more hopeful at -0.1 bWAR, but it’s evident that the current situation isn’t terrific. Adding Robert to the mix might be the final piece of the puzzle this season, and they could want to bring him back next year on that club option.”
Robert inked a six-year, $50 million agreement in 2020, with club options in 2026 and 2027. The White Sox are poised to become sellers at the trade deadline, and Robert will be a popular name this summer. Robert was amazed that he had made it to opening day with the White Sox. “Honestly, no,” Robert told 670 The Score’s Chris Emma when asked if he expected to make the White Sox’s opening day roster. “I understand there were a lot of speculations going around. “I didn’t expect to be here.”
Robert has struggled to start the season, but playing on a winning squad should help. At his peak, Robert is an All-Star with the ability to hit 40 home runs. His only All-Star participation came in 2023. That season, he battled through his first 30 games.
