JUST IN: Lions GM Brad Holmes Sets Record Straight Regarding Jameson Williams’ Future With a Shocking and Brutal Announcement

Despite recent rumors, Jameson Williams isn’t going anywhere — at least not according to Brad Holmes.

During a media session following the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions general manager clarified that the team was not looking to trade its former first-round wide receiver.

“No, that’s something we’ve never considered,” Holmes told the Detroit Free Press when asked about recent trade rumors. “I don’t know where that report came from, but that’s not a conversation that me and Dan [Campbell] have ever had.”

This is about as direct as it gets.

Detroit Lions 2025 NFL draft questions: What must Brad Holmes do?

The rumor mill keeps spinning.
National reports in recent weeks, particularly from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, have hinted that the Lions may be looking into trade options for Williams, as his fifth-year option expires and the team faces several major contract decisions.

However, Holmes made it clear that such conversations are not taking place.

Instead, the front office appears to be focused on keeping its rising star in Honolulu Blue, at least in the short term.

Five-Year Option? Likely. Extension? We’ll see.
Williams is coming off a breakout 2024 season in which he racked up 1,001 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, establishing himself as the explosive complement to Amon-Ra St. Brown that the team had envisioned when drafting him.

Holmes stated that the organization is “likely” to exercise Williams’ fifth-year option, which would keep him under contract through the 2026 season. That would give Detroit time to figure out what a longer-term deal might look like — assuming it happens at all.

“There’s a lot of extensions that are hopefully coming,” says Holmes. “But it’s just one of those situations where you have no idea what’s going to happen financially. Because wide receivers are expensive. It’s extremely expensive.”

With big-money deals already signed for St. Brown, Penei Sewell, Alim McNeill, Kerby Jospeh, and others on the way (looking at you, Aidan Hutchinson), the Lions will have some difficult decisions to make.

But for now? Jameson is not going anywhere.
