There are times when it must be produced when the August NBA offseason is not chaotic. With an incredible five-team deal that finally led to Giannis Antetokounmpo joining the Los Angeles Lakers, Bleacher Report did just that.
With the Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, and Brooklyn Nets, Eric Pincus created a monstrosity. For the Bucks in especially, the haul from this one was so lengthy that it was unable to fit in the trade embed.
As a result, this one will require a different approach. The haul for each team will be highlighted in the section that follows.
The Milwaukee Bucks have finally given up on the Antetokounmpo era.
The Bucks’ decision to release Antetokounmpo from the troubling circumstances in Milwaukee has been begged for by the NBA community. They ultimately accomplish that here. How is the return trade going? In its sheer abundance, abundant.
RJ Barrett, PJ Washington, Caleb Martin, Naji Marshall, a $2 million trade exception, the Lakers’ 2026, 2028, 2030, and 2032 first-round swap rights, a 2026 second-round selection from the Lakers via the Raptors, and a 2031 first-round pick from the Lakers were all given to the Bucks.
Were you able to stay on top of everything? The Bucks receive a few veterans with whom they may decide to wait until they may figure out how to turn their strategy around and acquire more draft resources. Additionally, they have long-term control over the Lakers’ NBA Draft prospects.
For a player of Antetokounmpo’s ability, this is ultimately a light return despite its volume. The Bucks’ actions following this transaction will ultimately determine whether the deal is worthwhile.
The Lakers’ ideal pair is Doncic and Antetokounmpo.
There should be no question that the Lakers emerge as the greatest beneficiaries from this trade. They relinquish authority over their future draft. Knecht and both of their James family members are turned over. It makes no difference.
Tyrese Martin, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, a $4 million trade exception, and a $2 million trade exception were all sent to the Lakers.
Rob Pelinka gets out of this agreement with two of the top five basketball players. This guarantees a long-term collaboration at the top of their team and certainly places them firmly in the championship candidate bracket.
Any team that Doncic and Antetokounmpo are a part of has a good chance of winning a championship.
It’s also a huge win to get out of this transaction with Austin Reaves still available as a third star.
The creation of two trade exceptions should put the Lakers in a position to take advantage of any openings by trading rid of any of their expiring contracts for other role players. However, following another blockbuster, it would be difficult to envision teams wanting to support Los Angeles even more.
