The Boston Celtics will most certainly be missing Jayson Tatum for the rest of next season, significantly reducing their chances of winning the championship.
One of their most significant flaws is the current big man rotation, which lacks a clear starting center.
Fansided’s Jack Simone suggests that they look into a 23-year-old, 6’9 center with the ability to stretch the floor.
“(Day’Ron) Sharpe appeared in 50 Nets games last season, averaging 18.1 minutes per game. “He averaged 7.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while shooting 52.1% from the field,” Simone said Tuesday. “Sharpe is also one of the top offensive rebounders in basketball, and has been since he first joined the league.
Sharpe has placed in the 97th percentile or above at his position in terms of offensive rebounding on his team’s missed field goals across his first four NBA seasons.
“The true reason Sharpe could be a Celtics trade target is his contract. He’ll only earn $6.3 million this year and next, making him relatively easy to acquire in terms of matching pay.”
Day’Ron Sharpe may not have had the greatest influence during his time with the Brooklyn Nets, but he has always been a bench player.
If none of their existing choices are considered starters, the Celtics may see this as an opportunity to experiment with a young center.
Sharpe would be similar to Al Horford, whom the Celtics are unwilling to re-sign.
Jaylen Brown will need all of the help he can get next year, and giving someone like Sharpe a shot could be a low-risk move that pays off handsomely.
