The South Korean striker appeared to be on his way from Genk to the Bundesliga, and he traveled to Germany last week to finalize the transfer.
Celtic included a sell-on clause when they sold Oh to the Belgian club for £3.5 million last summer, and were expected to get roughly £4 million if the trade was completed.
Stuttgart, however, terminated the agreement due to fears over a potential knee injury.
Oh stated last week that he was baffled by their decision. He pointed out: “Since high school, I’ve never had any problems with my knee and never missed games due to injuries, not even at Celtic or Genk.”
And Genk, who will begin their Europa League campaign with a match against Rangers at Ibrox later this month, might escalate the situation.
Genk CEO Luc Hooybergs stated, “What happened with Oh Hyeon-gyu was indecent.”
“After our play against Zulte Waregem, he boarded a plane for Stuttgart. The deal appeared to be a formality, but there were indications that Stuttgart was internally questioning the £24 million fee.
“They then brought up Oh’s medical file from eight years ago and suddenly wanted to renegotiate the deal, which was not an option for us.”
“Oh is in excellent shape and has been injury-free for several years.
“So we are debating whether to proceed with this. Nothing has been ruled out.
