SAD NEWS: Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce Confirmed Serious injury of Key Star and an important Career Update on T DJ Fluker

The Las Vegas Raiders may focus on the offensive lineman position this offseason. With team captain Kolton Miller missing four games this season due to the first severe injury of his career, and offensive tackles Jermaine Eluemunor and Brandon Parker becoming free agents, it may be vital that Las Vegas develops a future plan for both positions. This suggests that Raiders veteran offensive tackle DJ Fluker’s role may expand as well. Fluker, who was added to the practice squad in December, has not appeared in an NFL game since 2020, but there is reason to believe he could return.

The 32-year-old lineman was selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers, who were led by Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco in their inaugural season. Fluker started 59 games over his four years in San Diego.
While Telesco and the Chargers’ organization first drafted Fluker over ten years ago, Telesco is as familiar with the veteran’s ability as anybody. If Fluker can demonstrate that he still has what it takes to make an impact in this league, he may be able to earn a position on the roster by the end of camp. However, this is still dependent on the state of the offensive tackle room at the time.

Fluker was among the first 15 players signed by the Raiders to reserve/future contracts earlier this month. He currently has a one-year contract of $1,210,000. Fluker’s final active season was 2020-21, when he made eight starts in 16 games for the Baltimore Ravens. In between that season and his tenure with the Chargers, he spent a year with the New York Giants and two years with the Seattle Seahawks.
