CRESTFALLEN: Malcolm Brogdon’s Trade Plans with the Celtics, Unveiled.

The future of Boston Celtics point guard Malcolm Brogdon has been the subject of some rumours. As one of the final tradeable players the team has to completely shake up their squad, the current Sixth Man of the Year award winner has been featured in trade rumours throughout the offseason.

The centrepiece of a blockbuster to help equalise salaries would be Brogdon’s contract, which is worth $45 million over the next two seasons. Given the scant information provided by both parties, it is reasonable for individuals to believe that there may be a background issue.

The Celtics front staff has largely ignored or deflected inquiries about the Sixth Man of the Year, and Bogdon and his camp have been silent all summer. According to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, “Something about the circumstance simply feels a little wrong.

In 67 games last season, Brogdon came off the bench to average 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 26 minutes a game for Boston. His play did deteriorate towards the conclusion of the regular season, and he occasionally struggled in the playoffs, which is where much of the suspicion comes from.

However, according to Himmelsbach, the Celtics have no current plans to trade Brogdon. After Boston changed up their backcourt this offseason by sending Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzles as part of the three-team deal that brought Kristaps Porzingis to Beantown, he might be in line for an even bigger role in the 2023–24 campaign.

But from what I’ve heard, the Celtics aren’t looking to trade Brogdon any more than they’re looking to trade any other player. Despite the fact that he had a disappointing season last year, Brogdon was still valuable to the Celtics. And Smart’s exit should only strengthen his position.”

Derrick White has established himself as the new point guard for the Celtics, so this is something to watch as the season progresses. Since Payton Pritchard is a competent backup, he ought to play more this season.

Brogdon is a crucial member of this roster, unless head coach Joe Mazzulla intends to employ Jayson Tatum at point guard more often, which has been rumoured. The only players on the roster with lead guard and point guard experience are White and Pritchard. Brogdon shouldn’t be leaving until a deal for another ball-handler is in the works.
