On Friday, the Minnesota Twins added some seasoned aid at the plate.
Carlos Santana, the Twins’ first baseman and designated hitter, has signed a one-year contract. Darren Wolfson of KSTP-5 Eyewitness News broke the news on X. The agreement is apparently worth at least $5.25 million, with incentives to enhance the total.
The Dominican slugger, who will turn 38 in April, has spent 14 seasons in the majors.
Santana began the 2023 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being traded midseason to the Milwaukee Brewers.
In 146 games last season, Santana had a batting average of.240, 23 home runs, and 86 RBIs. His.747 OPS put him right around league average as a hitter. Despite his advanced age, Santana has maintained a net positive defensive rating. Santana started 135 of 146 games at first base.
Santana’s deal came just days after the Twins traded a former All-Star to the Seattle Mariners.
