Two former Phillies from Philadelphia have agreed to minor league contracts. Josh Harrison and Dalton Guthrie will suit up for new ballclubs with the aim of playing their way into an available roster slot, as spring training is scheduled to start in less than a week.
The most well-known of the two, Harrison, signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds. The Phillies cut him during the August 1 trade deadline of the previous season to create room on the roster when they acquired pitcher Michael Lorenzen from the Detroit Tigers. The two-time former All-Star will want to make a good impression during spring training in an effort to rebuild his career.
Harrison signed a one-year contract and struggled in Philadelphia. The 36-year-old made 114 plate appearances and hit.204 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 40 games. The defensively adaptable Harrison had multiple appearances with the Phillies in 2023, including two outings on the mound.
