The Washington Commanders’ No. 2 choice will be the subject of much speculation this summer. There’s a chance they’ll move up for the first pick, but the main attention is on who will be the next quarterback. Rightfully so, because the franchise needs to locate their person. However, the defence needs to improve, and they must make a choice on Jonathan Allen and other players who have shown dissatisfaction with the team. If moved, the Green Bay Packers could benefit from having a player of his calibre, according to Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon.
Kenyon suggests trading Jonathan Allen for a 2024 second-round pick (No. 41) and a 2024 fifth-round choice (No. 168). The Packers’ defence would improve, while the Commanders would acquire two more draft picks in this year’s draft.
“Despite the team’s surprising playoff run, Green Bay’s defensive line struggled for much of 2023. Four separate teams carried for 200 or more yards against the Packers, which is absolutely awful.
“Flipping a second-round choice for Allen—an immediate, undeniable upgrade—would be a wise decision over hoping a Day 2 pick rapidly plays out. Green Bay has quarterback Jordan Love on a low-cost contract and can free up cap room for Allen by moving on from frequently injured lineman David Bahktiari.

Allen’s statements on his future with the Washington Commanders sparked trade talks early this winter.
With head coach Dan Quinn’s defensive mindset, Allen may be able to put the past behind him and be willing to grow with the Commanders. However, if he is dealt, heading to a team like the Green Bay Packers may make more sense for him because he will now have a chance to win.
Allen aired his dissatisfaction on “The Sports Junkies” show and discussed his future in Washington.
“A thousand percent. I would be lying if I said I didn’t. I play this game to win, and while I would love to win here, my main goal is to win,” Allen said. “That’s always going to be at the front and centre of my mind and everything I’m going to be doing in my career is going to make sure I’ll have an opportunity to win.”
His displeasure is understandable given the Commanders’ lack of success and ownership troubles throughout his career.
Commanders must make Allen happy.
While Allen has the right to ask for a trade, as does every other NFL player, the Washington Commanders must make him happy.
This was football’s worst defensive club last season, surrendering more than 30 points per game. Regardless of who they choose, allowing 30 points each game will not lead to success, even if they get prime Tom Brady.
He opted to sign an extension, and he acknowledged this by saying the following on his podcast appearance.
“I’m not jealous because it was my decision to sign back here, so I don’t have buyers’ remorse,” Allen was quoted as saying. “I believe that when you make a decision, you stick to it and don’t look back; you move on. And I mean, I’ve made two Pro Bowls with this team and signed the deal of my dreams, so to say I’m jealous would be a little stupid on my behalf because I’ve been extremely fortunate in this league. But I want to win, and everything I do for myself and my family will be geared toward that goal.”
The Green Bay Packers and others will be interested in the Pro Bowler’s services, but the Commanders need him to commit as they work to improve this defence.
