GOOD NEWS: Why the Man City No.16 “Rodri” will only miss two games before he can play again

Rodri has made headlines following his red card in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

After wrapping his hands around Morgan Gibbs-White’s throat, the Spaniard was given a three-game suspension.

Rodri, on the other hand, will be able to return to Manchester City action after only two games. Why? Let us have a look…

Why can Rodri play again after only two games?
Because Manchester City’s No.16 received his red card in the Premier League, he will only be punished for domestic matches.

Rodri will first miss Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Newcastle United.

The 27-year-old will then miss Wolves’ Premier League match on Saturday.
Rodri’s domestic ban will be lifted following the Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday, October 8th.
However, Pep Guardiola will have access to the Spain international shortly before the trip to the Emirates Stadium, where Manchester City face RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday 4th October.

Rodri’s suspension is solely for domestic appearances because he was sent off in a Premier League game, hence his availability for European matches will not be affected.

If he had been sent off against Red Star Belgrade, for example, he would have been banned.

He would have been barred from playing in three European games but allowed to play in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup, so it works both ways.
While Rodri’s domestic absence is a significant setback for Guardiola and Manchester City, the treble winners will have the Madrid-born maestro ready for what appears to be a tough test against RB Leipzig.

With all due respect, the German side is Manchester City’s hardest opponent in Group G, ahead of Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys, thus this should reassure supporters who want to see the Citizens win their UEFA Champions League group.
