The Atlanta Hawks welcomed the Toronto Raptors in their first game back from the All-Star Break, seeking to get the new season off to a strong start.
It was simply more of the same from the Hawks.
Atlanta defeated the Raptors 123-121 for a variety of reasons, marking their third consecutive loss. One of the reasons could have been because they were without a head coach for two and a half quarters.
At 4:27 in the second quarter, Poeltl was not called for a clear moving screen, and Young collapsed in pain. Snyder was removed after arguing with the referee over not calling anything.
After the game, Snyder met with the media and explained why he fought the call the way he did and what made him unhappy.
“That was a foul. He turned his body, which constitutes an automatic foul. way is the call, and obviously my reaction; I generally don’t respond like way to any foul, but in this situation, I saw Trae (Young) take a shot in the quad, and I was concerned about his knee, and then he was on the ground, and I was afraid that he was injured. So, that was the rationale; I’m not sure why the second one arrived when it did; generally, you receive one like that, and there is some level of understanding; my player is on the ground and may be injured.
So, as I already stated, my reaction was undoubtedly emotional, and this is why. You can see it in the film; there is an unmistakable touch. The feet are wide, which is an illegal screen to begin with, the body rotates, and you get a guy who takes a shot in his quad, and it initially appeared to me to be his knee, which is why I responded, but that was not the game.”
This was a game that the Hawks had the chance to win. A better half-shooting from three, a better performance from Young, Capela not missing many close-range shots early in the game, and a better shooting game from Bogdanovic would have resulted in a Hawks victory. However, it was the Hawks’ third consecutive loss, and they remain in 10th place in the Eastern Conference.
The Hawks’ next chance to win will come on Sunday at home against the Orlando Magic.
