BREAKING NEWS: Pressure’s On Brian Daboll, Mike Kafka to Get Giants Offense Humming

In 2024, the New York Giants are starting a pivotal season. Following a 6-11 season this year, there’s a chance this team may start to resemble the squad that startled the NFL in 2022 by going 9-7-1 and earning a postseason appearance for the first time since 2016. This implies that after winning Coach of the Year in his first season, head coach Brian Daboll’s seat will be a little warmer than it was last year. Daboll’s job could become even more perilous if the Giants fall again, even if there were many non-coaching reasons for the team’s lack of success this past season. Tzvi Machlin of The Spun believes as much, having compiled a list of coaches who may be leaving after this season. Machlin notes that Daboll and Robert Saleh, the head coach of the Jets, have the same brag.

Should the Giants’ incredible 2022 campaign no longer have the same effect and 2024 turn out to be more like 2023, both New York City football clubs will be searching for new head coaches. Daboll might not be the culture-shifting player the Giants are hoping for, but [Mike] Vrabel, who seems to be taking the season off following an incredible run with the Tennessee Titans, might be. Machlin also thinks that offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and the Giants may part ways at the end of the current campaign, with Kafka probably going to take a head coaching job elsewhere, regardless of what happens with Daboll. And Machlin thinks Kafka might not have to travel far for his next employment if that occurs.

It’s over for [Robert] Saleh. Joe Douglas, the general manager of the New York Jets, might, however, obtain a stay of execution.

Mike Kafka: Giants' opportunity was “special to me and my family” - Big Blue ViewIf he does, he remains inside the city limits in search of Mike Kafka, the offensive coordinator for the Giants, who can replace Saleh. Given the offense’s shortcomings the previous season, pressure is on the whole Giants staff, but it’s particularly intense for Daboll and Kafka—the team’s chief architects and orchestrators of the offense—to ensure that the Giants don’t experience a recurrence of that season.
