erry Jeudy is leaving the Denver Broncos for the Cleveland Browns, and the former wide receiver is looking forward to a new beginning.
The Browns exchanged fifth and sixth-round picks in the 2024 draft for Jeudy, considerably increasing their wide receiver depth. Jeudy will play alongside Amari Cooper, Elijah Moore, Cedric Tillman, and others in Cleveland next season.
Jeudy is ready to join the “Dawg Pound” and posted a three-word statement on X (previously Twitter) following the trade: “Only Dawgs Allowed.”
The Browns have had their eyes on Jeudy for quite some time. Cleveland considered a trade for Jeudy before the trade deadline last season, but the price was a second-round selection, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
The Browns now have a solid No. 2 option to complement Cooper, and it may not cost them anything. According to Cabot, Cleveland will likely convert a portion of Jeudy’s salary to a bonus, lowering his cap figure.
“The Browns inherit Jeudy’s $12.987 million contract for 2024, but will likely convert some of that fifth-year option tender to a restructure bonus and lower the base salary by either extending the contract or adding void years,” Cabot reported on the morning of March 9.
Jeudy is entering a contract year. If the Browns do not extend his contract before then, he will become a free agency in 2025. Jeudy has never cracked the 1,000-yard mark, but he has come close several times. Over four seasons, he has 211 receptions for 3,053 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Deshaun Watson, the Browns quarterback, is pleased with the trade for Jerry Jeudy.
Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was pleased with the move for Jeudy, which offers him another weapon to use with next season. Watson took to X with a few messages, all of which contained emojis, indicating his satisfaction with the move.
This included sharing a tweet that stated, “He’s already got the celebration down,” and showed Jeudy launching an arrow, which is Watson’s characteristic celebration.
The Browns’ aim this offseason was to provide additional weapons for Watson. Jeudy meets the description, giving Cleveland another capable option outside of Cooper.
Last season, Cooper led the Browns’ offence despite receiving passes from four different quarterbacks. He totaled 1,250 yards on 72 catches. According to Albert Breer of the MMQB, Jeudy should get along well with Cooper, whom he admires.
“New Browns WR Jerry Jeudy looked up to fellow South Florida native Amari Cooper coming up, Cooper was a reason why Jeudy went to Bama, and Jeudy has patterned his game after Cooper’s,” Breer said in a statement. “Add that to the contract-year dynamic, and the Browns are well-positioned to maximize Jeudy.”
Browns hope for full season from Deshaun Watson.
Watson has yet to play a full season with the Browns following the blockbuster 2022 trade. Watson has appeared in only 12 games since being traded to the Browns, owing to a lengthy suspension and injuries.
Watson will be ready to start the next season after undergoing season-ending surgery for a dislocated fracture of the glenoid in his right shoulder. The Browns aim to have him available for the entire season.
“We’d all love to see him on the field more frequently. “I think that’s safe to say, himself included,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry stated on January 22. “I feel really good about him; I’m pleased with the development he’s made inside our organization, both on and off the field, and we’re looking forward to having him back next year. We believe he’ll have a great year and have a lot of faith in him as our starting quarterback.”
Watson has 2,217 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions with the Browns.
