DEAL COMPLETED: Raider Have Completed The Deal to Re- Sign Former NFL Top Center on $24 million Deal

Andre James was poised to be one of the top centres available in free agency. Instead, he will remain with the Raiders, his agency confirmed on Sunday.

Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network indicate that James will receive $24 million over three years. Of that amount, $16 million is guaranteed. As a result, the 26-year-old will rise to sixth in terms of annual remuneration among centres.

James was clearly entitled for a rise after his third season as a starter. In a contract year, James had a career year, finishing as the league’s ninth-best centre, according to Pro Football Focus. He had a well-rounded game, ranking as the eighth-best pass blocking centre and the eleventh-best run blocking centre. Injuries have forced him to miss a game or two over the last two seasons, but for the most part, James has been fairly consistent.

Getting this deal done before free agency will allow the Raiders to keep continuity at a vital position on the offensive line. The move also ensures Dylan Parham will continue to play guard, despite uncertainties regarding his future role. James and Parham will play significant roles in Vegas’ potential to provide a great season up front in 2024 and beyond.

James, Parham, and starting right guard Greg Van Roten led an offensive line that improved last year but has a long way to go. Van Roten and right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor are still on their way to free agency, but with Thayer Munford shown his ability to step up and start at times this season, James was the clear priority. With James signed to a new contract, the Raiders can now focus on the remaining free agents.
