DEAL AGREED: Commanders quickly addressing roster holes to start Free Agency

Adam Peters, the Washington Commanders’ first general manager, has wasted no time in filling roster voids before free agency begins. Washington has already signed 14 free agents and re-signed two of them, safety Jeremy Reaves and wide receiver Jamison Crowder. Washington signed some young players that have the ability to flourish and become crucial members of head coach Dan Quinn’s roster. These players include safety Jeremy Chinn, linebacker Frankie Luvu, centre Tyler Biadasz, and defensive end Dorance Armstrong. There are also a few signings that can boost Washington’s mental makeup. Running back Austin Ekeler, linebacker Bobby Wagner, and Chinn were all captains on previous squads.

Leadership and guidance in the locker room are just as important for coaches who are attempting to raise the standard on the field, and bringing in three former NFL captains who can serve as a liaison between players and staff, as well as their ability on the field as players, is significant and worth noting. The turnaround and ability to obtain such high-caliber players revealed much about coach Dan Quinn and his staff.

In comparison to Washington’s previous head coach, Ron Rivera, his first offseason was a complete rebuild, but his subsequent offseasons offered a more passive tone for me. Attacking the summer does not have to revolve around making big splashes and overpaying on one or two players in the hopes of turning your franchise around. It goes without saying that on-field outcomes are most important, but so far, Washington’s free agency process has gone well.
