The Houston Texans do not have a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft due to a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, but that does not mean they will not add a potential game changer to quarterback C.J. Stroud’s supporting cast.
Texans wide receiver Nico Collins has developed as a game-changing talent, and Tank Dell was having a fantastic rookie season until sustaining a season-ending injury.
However, given that rising star quarterback C.J. Stroud is still on his rookie contract, the Houston Texans are unlikely to stop adding weapons to their arsenal anytime soon.
According to Pro Football Focus, Michigan star wide receiver Roman Wilson is the ‘ideal fit’ for the Texans in the 2018 NFL Draft.
“Wilson can be a flanker/slot who brings legitimate track speed to the Texans’ corps,” writes Brad Spielberger for Pro Football Focus. “In 2023, he will have 12 receptions on passes 20-plus yards downfield, ranking among the top 25 in college football. Despite playing in a run-first system with early leads and a strong defense, they did not need to push the ball downfield.Wilson’s evident concentration on run blocking will appeal to offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, who will take delight in clearing rushing lanes for his running backs. Houston loaded up on defense this summer after loading up on the offensive line the previous offseason, and while they may certainly use more quality in the secondary, another pass catcher to supplement their existing group wouldn’t hurt.
If Wilson falls out of the first round and to the Texans at No. 42, he may be the perfect fit to boost Houston’s offense in 2024 and beyond.

Wilson emerged as a major element of Michigan’s passing game during the Wolverines’ 2023 national championship run.
Last season, Wilson had 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 16.4 yards per reception despite playing in Michigan’s run-heavy offense.
“I don’t think most people understand what he could have done in a wide-open offense like Ohio State or Washington. He has uncommon speed, which you will see more of in the NFL as he becomes more involved in the passing game, according to an NFC scout.
Ahead of this year’s selection, PFF praises Wilson with an excellent 2-percent drop rate and notes that he averages 4.6 yards after the catch per reception, which may make him an asset and chains-mover for Stroud and the Texans.
“In a different receiver class, Wilson would be much higher on these rankings,” according to PFF. “He not only possesses NFL-level speed, but also NFL-level determination at the reception point and while blocking. His footage indicates a player that coaches would love to have.
