Antonio Pierce is preparing to conduct his first draft as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, and the team’s primary need is clear: quarterback. The squad parted ways with Derek Carr before last season and has struggled to find a suitable replacement.
Carr and his family were not pleased with how former head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler handled the quarterback, who now plays for the New Orleans Saints. However, it looks that any animosity between the Carr family and the Raiders is receding.
Derek’s older brother, former New York Giants quarterback David Carr, had many positive things to say about Pierce.

“First, can I just say, I love Antonio Pierce,” Carr remarked on the April 1 broadcast of “NFL Total Access.” “He was my ex-Giants teammate; he’s amazing. He lacks coaching communication skills. He basically tells you exactly how he is feeling at the time, which I think is amazing.”
Carr and Pierce spent two seasons together in New York, so they should know one other well. Carr joins a long list of former teammates who have complimented Pierce for his leadership abilities.
David Carr thinks the Las Vegas Raiders will draft a quarterback
The Raiders’ most essential goal moving forward is to find the proper quarterback and develop around him. If they can’t accomplish it, they won’t win many games. David Carr is convinced that Las Vegas will select a quarterback early in this year’s draft.

“I think they’re going to have to get one a little bit higher than where they are,” Carr went on to say. “I guess they’ll have to go up. They’ll need to determine which quarterback best fits their scheme. I guess they’ll go grab one.”
Carr is related to Antonio Pierce and star wide receiver Davante Adams, so he may have some insider information, but it’s unclear. It’s no secret that the Raiders want to acquire a quarterback, but with no pick until No. 13, it will be difficult for them to land one of the best prospects. It remains to be known what the team’s strategy is, although they are likely to consider all options ahead to the draft.
Michael Penix Jr., the Las Vegas Raiders’ host.
If the Raiders are unable to trade up for a top-five pick, there is one quarterback who could be a good fit at number 13. After an excellent Pro Day performance, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. is rising back up the draft boards.
According to an April 3 X post by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Raiders will host Penix for a visit.
The Raiders are expected to host visits with many of the top quarterback prospects, so it’s hardly surprising they’re paying closer attention to Penix. However, if the squad is unable to move up, he may prove to be the most logical fit. He’s a player worth keeping an eye on for the Raiders. He has a powerful arm and impressive athleticism. If he can stay healthy, he could be an excellent quarterback.
