BREAKING NEWS: Bears Head Coach Reveal Details of Caleb Williams Future After Making Call with Top QB Target

Early in the spring, speculation arose over whether USC quarterback Caleb Williams was interested in playing for the Chicago Bears and/or if he would try to avoid that conclusion if the organization drafted him first overall.

According to new reports released on Wednesday, April 3, the great prospect may yet wind up in Chicago.
“Potential No. 1 overall pick #USC QB Caleb Williams made his Top 30 facility visit to the #Bears today, sources say,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on X. “He was in town for supper yesterday night, too. Probably his only visit. As Chicago honed in…

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk interpreted Williams’ confirmed meeting in Chicago, as well as Rapoport’s report that it will most likely be the quarterback’s only one, as evidence that Williams will not try to force the franchise to draft a different player or trade him after being selected first overall.

“This implies that Williams apparently won’t be trying to avoid the Bears and play elsewhere,” Florio wrote on Wednesday. “Despite the fact that the Bears have a defensive head coach and an offensive coordinator who may leverage Williams’ success into a head-coaching position, Williams will have to adjust to a new offensive coordinator. And, perhaps, so on as Williams thrives and offensive coordinators say, ‘See you!'”

Caleb Williams Rome Odunze Bears Mock Draft NFL

Caleb Williams may like to play for a team other than the Bears, but is unlikely to say. Florio did not say Williams prefers Chicago above other teams, including his hometown Washington Commanders, citing previous events. However, Florio clearly hinted that the highly anticipated prospect’s actions imply that he will not make any such information public.

“Williams is in a tight situation. Even if he wants to play for another team, how can he do so without becoming a pariah? Florio continued. “If he ventured to suggest he’d rather play for another team, the media and supporters would rip him apart. If he plays for the Bears, he’ll have to hope it goes better than it did for their 2021 first-round pick, whom the franchise dealt to the Steelers last month in exchange for a future sixth-round pick.”

Florio was referring to Justin Field. A former management and coaching regime in Chicago selected Fields with the 11th overall choice in 2021. He spent three seasons there before being sold to Pittsburgh by general manager Ryan Poles in March.

Caleb Williams might join a much stronger Bears team this season than QB Justin Fields did in 2021.
One difference between Fields’ and Williams’ situations is obvious: Williams may be entering a lot better situation than Fields did three years ago.

Caleb Williams Pro Day Ryan Poles Chicago Bears News

Poles arranged a trade with the Carolina Panthers for the No. 1 choice in the 2023 draft, which netted Chicago wide receiver DJ Moore and the draft pick the team will utilize to choose Williams first overall. Poles also sold a fourth-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers in March for wide receiver Keenan Allen, who has made the Pro Bowl in six of his last seven seasons.

Furthermore, the Bears signed free agent running back D’Andre Swift and extended tight end Cole Kmet’s contract until 2027. In addition, Chicago owns the ninth overall pick this year, where a receiver like Rome Odunze may fall depending on how the draft dominoes fall.
