DEAL AGREED: Saint Are Reportedly On The Verge of Landing Top Defensive player Of The Year At Illinois Pro Day

The New Orleans Saints may still be looking to add to their defensive line in the 2024 NFL Draft.
According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, at least eight teams attended the Illinois Pro Day. The event was headlined by defensive tackle Jer’Zhan (Johnny) Newton, Illinois’ sole predicted first-round prospect.

Last season, the 6’2, 304-pound Newton had 26 solo tackles and eight sacks. Last year, he recorded the fourth-most sacks in the Big Ten with twelve starts. He was named the 2023 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

Last season, New Orleans actively drafted defensive lineman to improve on their poor performance in 2022. Bryan Bresee, a first-round choice, had an excellent first season, totaling 12 solo tackles and 4.5 sacks.

Perhaps the management believes that Bresee, along with newcomers like Chase Young, require further support to transform the defensive line. Last season, New Orleans allowed 327 opponent yards, placing 13th in the league.
