DEAL HIJACK: Miami Football Have Hijack The Deal and Reportedly Leading The Race To Land top 10 Transfer Edge Rusher

According to Brad Crawford of 247Sports, the Miami football program is leading Tyler Baron, the fourth ranked eligible transfer and tenth top edge rusher in the 2024 portal. Last week, Baron visited Miami and USC. Miami has remained a constant in Baron’s shifting recruitment strategy.

Last week, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald said that Miami and Mississippi were Baron’s top markets. Baron moved to Louisville from Tennessee during the winter portal cycle. Baron first committed to Mississippi during the winter portal cycle before switching to Louisville.

Baron would join Miami’s deep set of edge rushers. In 2024, Miami will return ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor as edge rushers. Elijah Alston, a Marshall edge rusher, transferred to Miami during the winter portal cycle. Miami also signed the top 2024 defensive line class.

Baron would join the rotation as an edge rusher behind Bain and Mesidor, battling for snaps alongside Alston. Miami signed five-star edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot, four-stars Booker Pickett Jr. and Elias Rudolph, and three-star Cole McConathy to its 2024 class. Lightfoot and McConathy performed admirably throughout spring practice.

In the 2020 class, Baron was the 118th prospect, fourth strong side defensive end, and fourth Tennessee player to come out of Knoxville Catholic. If Baron chooses the Hurricanes, Miami will add another seasoned edge rusher with one season of eligibility remaining.

Adding Baron would give the 2024 Miami freshman time to develop.
Baron would complete Miami’s veteran edge rusher rotation in 2024. The acquisition of Baron would allow for more emphasis on other positions after the transfer window closes for new entries on April 30. Transfer students can continue to make visits and make judgments about the next program they will compete in.
