WNBA UPDATE: Caitlin Clark Responds to New Philadelphia Eagles Rookie’s Challenge and Claims

Cooper DeJean, a fellow Iowa Hawkeyes player, recently claimed he could beat Iowa women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark in a one-on-one basketball contest.

DeJean, who was just picked by the Philadelphia Eagles, stated that Clark responded to his comments that became viral.
Caitlin Clark does not believe Cooper DeJean could beat her in a one-on-one matchup.
Cooper DeJean explained that Caitlin Clark responded to his viral comments by saying he didn’t feel he was correct.

Clark, widely regarded as the greatest women’s college basketball player of all time, texted DeJean personally to express her feelings. DeJean expressed her response in a piece for TheSpun.
“Caitlin is an exceptional player. She has accomplished so much for women’s basketball and the University of Iowa in general. So I only respect her. After she texted me, she responded by saying that she does not believe I could beat her. I let her say that. “I think it would be fun, though,” DeJean added.

Cooper DeJean possesses great basketball talent.
While contemplating whether he could beat Clark at her own game, DeJean’s high school basketball videos reappeared.
DeJean went on to remark that basketball was his first option when he started high school, but he was better suited to playing football at the high level. While his basketball abilities are undeniable, it appears that DeJean was correct, as the Philadelphia Eagles have selected him with the 40th overall choice in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Cooper DeJean’s athleticism bode well for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Many draft analysts and Philadelphia Eagles fans were concerned about DeJean’s athleticism as a cornerback in the NFL.

While the basketball highlights may appear to be a neat, albeit inconsequential, showcase of DeJean’s skill at Clark’s sport, they also demonstrate DeJean’s athletic ability.

DeJean did not run the 40-yard sprint at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, although he did on Iowa’s Pro Day. DeJean recorded a 4.42-second 40-yard sprint at Iowa’s Pro Day, contributing to a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 9.85.

RAS takes into account all athletic measurements, including height and weight, vertical leap, and broad jump. DeJean tests well, but many people question his athleticism because of his appearance. His RAS score is comparable to that of fellow Philadelphia Eagles CB James Bradberry, who has previously received Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honours.

DeJean was also an outstanding returner, which might benefit the Eagles in an NFL with revised return regulations. While DeJean has had major injuries, many pundits believe the Eagles got a value by selecting him with the No. 40 overall choice.
