Last week, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner told YES Network’s Jack Curry that he wants Juan Soto to wear pinstripes for the rest of his life.
However, if the Yankees want to sign the slugging outfielder, they will most likely have to wait until the end of the season, when he will be a free agency.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY, “the cold truth is there is absolutely zero chance Soto will sign before he’s a free agent.”
Soto’s agent is Scott Boras, and he usually brings his clients to free agency to test the market before signing contracts.
“Well, I think we’d like to see him here for the rest of his career,” Steinbrenner told Curry on last week’s “Yankees News & Views” podcast. “I do not think there is any doubt about that. His agent, Scott (Boras), rarely makes agreements in the middle of the season. Neither do I. I believe it could be a distraction, but as I mentioned before spring training when I met you, this is a unique circumstance with a very unique individual.
“So, I mean, I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a conversation or two had, possibly during the course of the season,” Steinbrenner stated. “I believe it is worth doing at some point. I want to give Juan some time to settle in and make sure we have a talk with him at some point. The most important thing is to ensure that this is a spot where he can picture himself for a long time.
Soto is hitting.In his first 219 plate appearances (48 games) with the Yankees, he batted 311/.411/.522, with 11 home runs and 37 RBI.
