BREAKING NEWS: Saint World Reacts to HC Dennis Allen Decision on Trevor Penning

The New Orleans Saints are trying multiple tactics to offer former first-round tackle Trevor Penning a fresh start. Despite the fact that they chose Taliese Fuaga in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, who was a right tackle in college, Trevor Penning is taking first-team snaps at right tackle in OTAs, while Taliese Fuaga is playing left tackle. There are a few schools of thought about why the team is doing this.

Most importantly, the Saints are giving Trevor Penning a fresh start. Penning’s struggles at left tackle are obvious to anyone. Giving him this opportunity allows him to see something new and start over. According to reports, John Benton, the Saints’ new offensive line coach, intends to move Penning to right tackle regardless of their first-round pick.

Why the Saints giving Trevor Penning an opportunity at right tackle is a smart move
When asked why he moved him over, Benton said, “We simply felt like Trevor, with his expertise and all, needed a fresh start. I genuinely believe there isn’t much difference between right and left tackles.” It is unknown if the Saints intend to keep Penning at right tackle throughout the season, but Benton believes he can make the adjustment if necessary.

Another thing the Saints could do is cross-train Penning in a different position. This could provide him with adaptability while also allowing him to obtain field experience. The Saints have a history of doing this, most recently with Landon Young. This would allow Penning to stay on the field even if he isn’t playing left tackle.

Although Penning has yet to play this season, the coaching staff has great expectations for him. Giving him a fresh start at right tackle, even if it is only for the season, is a wise decision that might reinvigorate Penning’s career.
