DONE DEAL: Phillies Have Officially Confirmed The Signing of Versatile and Decorated Infielder From Detroit Tigers To War Up With Bryce Harper Ahead of London Series

The Detroit Tigers traded Buddy Kennedy to the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday in exchange for cash considerations, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. Kennedy, 25, is going closer to home after being designated for assignment by the Tigers on Monday. When the Tigers promoted Justyn-Henry Malloy from Triple-A Toledo, they sent Spencer Torkelson to the minors, freeing up a spot on the 26-man roster and allowing Kennedy to be designated for assignment on the 40-man roster. Kennedy is officially on the Phillies’ 40-man roster and will play for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Kennedy becomes the latest depth addition for the Phillies, who recently acquired Ruben Cardens and Jonah Dipoto in separate transactions. Kennedy, who was born in Philadelphia, attended Millville High School in New Jersey, which is slightly over 40 miles from Citizens Bank Park. His grandfather, Don Money, played for the Phillies from 1968 to 1972. The Tigers designated Kenney for assignment after Ryan Kreidler and Eddys Leonard returned from Triple-A Toledo on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. After their returns, Kreidler and Leonard pushed Kennedy for a promotion if the Tigers needed a major league infielder.
