MLB Latest: The New York Yankees GM Has Reportedly Offer a Surprising Blockbuster Trade Proposal For Starting Pitcher That Has Taken MLB By Storm in 2024

While the New York Yankees have a good pitching staff that will improve with Gerrit Cole’s return, a new report suggests they are considering adding a starting pitcher who has taken the league by storm in 2024.

The Yankees are on fire heading into today’s MLB games. They have won 13 of their last 16 games, hold a 3.5-game lead in the American League East, and have the best record in MLB (50-22). The scariest aspect of their impressive start to the season is that they have done so without ace and 2023 AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole.

However, his absence has had no impact because the starting lineup, led by youngster Luis Gil, has been completely dominant. That is why they will face some difficult decisions when Cole returns to action in the coming weeks. However, the team is considering acquiring another starting pitcher who has had a successful season this year.

This week, New York Post MLB insider Jon Heyman claimed that “the Yankees are believed to like White Sox reliever-turned-starter Garrett Crochet.”

Garrett Crochet stats (2024): 6-5 record, 3.15 ERA, 0.895 ERA, 116 SO, 19 BB, 82.2 innings.
The 24-year-old, whom Chicago selected with the 11th overall choice in 2020, has been one of the few bright spots on an otherwise terrible White Sox club this season. In 15 starts, he leads the league with 116 strikeouts and has an MLB-best 12.6 strikeouts per nine innings average. Crochet’s outstanding start is also one of the reasons the Sox may demand a high price for him.

However, he has already pitched 21 1/3 innings more than he has in the past, raising similar concerns about Gil. Yet, Crochet’s big league history as a reliever makes a late-season switch to the bullpen for New York a natural decision for the young lefty.
