HUGE BLOW: Phillies Have Officially lost Their Key Most Valued Catcher to Cubs in a Blockbuster Trade That got Fans So Furious

On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs traded for catcher William Simoneit from the Philadelphia Phillies to strengthen their organizational catching depth.

According to the MLB transaction wire, Simoneit was assigned to the Cubs’ Double-A affiliate in West Tennessee, replacing Moises Ballesteros, who was promoted to Triple-A this week.

In exchange, the Cubs will send the Phillies monetary considerations.

Simoneit has two home runs, eight RBIs, and seven walks in 77 plate appearances this season, appearing in 20 games for the Phillies’ Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley affiliates.

He’s slicing.145/.286/.306 during the season.

According to MLB Pipeline, Ballesteros is the top catcher in the Cubs’ system and the team’s sixth-best prospect overall. He has appeared in 56 games this season for West Tennessee, hitting nine home runs and driving in 43 RBIs. He’s hitting.299/.372/.495 in 223 plate appearances for the Smokies.

He is slated to make his Triple-A debut on Tuesday, when the Iowa Cubs face the Indianapolis Indians.
