Alvin Kamara has put the New Orleans Saints in a tough spot. The talented running back left obligatory minicamp early last week. That raised some suspicions, especially because his representative indicated that his departure was due to a contract.
Kamara is looking for a new deal, as has been widely reported in the last week. The veteran running back is willing to work out a new two-year contract for this season and next.
“I’m told Kamara is willing to do a modified two-year agreement that strengthens his assurances in year one. They have talked about it. So far, there isn’t much momentum. We’ll see how things shake out. If nothing is done by late July, he may miss training camp.” — Jeremy Fowler, via SportsCenter
That deal, for Kamara, should include more guaranteed money for this year. He wants to make more money before he gets thirty. It makes sense, and the Saints’ offence is better and more exciting when the running back is on the field.
Jamaal Williams supports Alvin Kamara’s attempt for a new deal.
“Me personally, as a male, I respect everyone for who they are and the decisions they make as men. Alvin is an excellent teammate and guy. He remains focused on his work and what he believes in. That’s only him. I fully support him in anything he does because he is only concerned with his well-being. That is all we desire for each other.
“It’s just part of the game we play. These are the types of things in which I completely support you if you believe in something. That’s all your decision.”
Williams’ move should not surprise anyone. He is regarded as one of the best teammates in the New Orleans locker room.
His charisma shines on and off the football field. His teammates have a lot of regard for him, and he repays that trust and respect with decisions like this.
Williams joins young RB Kendre Miller as depth possibilities for New Orleans. They are both expected to have an impact under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, however. Let’s see if Kamara stays ahead of them in the depth chart.
