With first baseman Anthony Rizzo expected to miss six to eight weeks due to a forearm injury, the Yankees are among the clubs interested in veteran Garrett Cooper, according to Robert Murray of Fansided.
Cooper became available on the open market after the Red Sox released him last week.
The 30-year-old originally signed with the Chicago Cubs on a minor league deal this summer, and while he made the Opening Day roster, he was designated for assignment after only 12 appearances.

Cooper was later transferred to the Boston Red Sox in return for monetary considerations, but after suffering a wrist injury and posting a.171 batting average, he was shortly released.
The Yankees did recall top prospect Ben Rice earlier this week, and while he has performed well at all levels of the minors, it couldn’t hurt to add a cheap and versatile veteran like Cooper to the roster.
The former sixth-round pick made his big-league debut with the Yankees after being acquired in a trade with the Brewers in 2017, and despite only appearing in 13 games, he recorded a strong.326 average with six extra-base hits.
Cooper has had a relatively productive MLB career to date, being chosen an All-Star for the first time only two years ago and hitting 17 home runs with the Marlins and Padres last season.
