HUGE DECISION: ‘Should Be Cut Immediately’- Yankees Fans Cry In Front of Yankees Stadium To Cut Outfielder For ‘Sleeping’ On Play

The New York Yankees’ problems appeared to reach a new low Thursday, when they failed to make an effort on a routine play.

With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Cincinnati Reds DH Jeimer Candelario hit a 1-1 pitch from Yankees reliever Caleb Ferguson up the middle into centre field. What should have been a single became a two-base play when outfielder Trent Grissom approached the ball with one hand and fumbled it, allowing Candelario to go to second on the error.

The play elicited a chorus of boos from the Yankee Stadium crowd, some rare candid criticism from the YES Network booth, and supporters who want something done about it.

“They caught Grisham sleeping,” broadcaster Michael Kay explained. “And Grisham also bobbles the ball and Candelario noticed that.”

“Yeah, kind of lackadaisical there ― just bobbled it and didn’t pick it up quick,” analyst Paul O’Neill responded.

It doesn’t help Grisham’s cause because he’s also not doing his job at the plate. Despite going 1 for 2 with a double and a walk, he is still hitting.165 with a.652 OPS, five home runs, and 14 RBIs in 102 plate appearances.
