Ross Chastain participated in an overtime incident in the Nashville Cup race.
Ross Chastain went from having a chance to win Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville Superspeedway to wrecking in the event’s first attempt at overtime.

On an extra-time restart at Lap 305, Chastain surged into Turn 1 from the outside, challenging Denny Hamlin for the race lead. Kyle Larson, in third place and arriving behind Hamlin on the bottom of the track, clipped the apron and collided with Chastain’s No. 1 Chevrolet, which spun backward into the SAFER barrier.
Ty Gibbs and Kyle Busch then took out his Trackhouse Racing entry. Daniel Hemric, John Hunter Nemechek, and Austin Dillon were also apprehended.

In Sunday’s Ally 400, Chastain led 45 laps before Hamlin passed him with seven laps remaining in regulation. Austin Cindric’s spin down the backstretch on Lap 299 extended the event over its planned 300 laps.

Chastain, who entered Nashville as the defending champion, is still looking for his first win of 2024. The No. 1 vehicle finished in 33rd place.
