The Twins have released veteran reliever Jay Jackson, reports Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic. The righty had been released last month and was not on the 40-man roster.
Jackson made 20 MLB appearances for Minnesota early in the season. He had a 7.52 earned run average despite striking out 29 batters and issuing only nine walks. The long ball was the biggest problem. Jackson surrendered seven home runs in 26 1/3 innings. It was a significant improvement over his 2.12 ERA in identical playing time with the Blue Jays the previous season.
Jackson, 36, pitched three innings of one-run ball in Triple-A earlier this season. He did not throw there after last month’s outright assignment. Jackson was on the temporarily inactive list. He is currently a free agent and may attract minor league interest once he is ready to return to action.
