Brentford are considering a £15 million bid for Sunderland midfielder Jack Clarke, according to Alan Nixon.
Clarke, 22, has been in excellent form for Sunderland this season, netting seven goals in his first nine Championship appearances for Tony Mowbray’s side.
Burnley tried and failed to sign the former Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur winger during the summer transfer window.
However, Nixon is now saying on his Patreon that Brentford are ‘checking out’ Clarke ‘ahead of a potential £15million deal’; Nixon adds that a’serious bid may land the gifted attacker’.
Furthermore, Nixon writes, “Sunderland hopes to win promotion, but a large sum of money would give them something to think about.”
Mowbray’s side had made a good start to the 2023/24 Championship season, but they were defeated 4-0 at home by Middlesbrough yesterday, dropping them to fourth place in the table for this month’s international break.
Clarke to move to Brentford?
Clarke’s excellent form has no doubt piqued the eye of Premier League clubs, with Brentford the most recent to express an interest.
The Bees were linked in the summer, but it was Burnley who put forth the greatest effort, and given their troubles this season, the Clarets could return for Clarke in January.
Clarke, for the time being, remains at Sunderland, and with the Black Cats aiming for promotion this season, they’ll no likely want to keep Clarke around.
However, as Nixon points out, Sunderland may be tempted, if not compelled, to cash in if Brentford makes a reasonable offer for Clarke.
The Black Cats may face a nervous winter transfer window due to Premier League interest in some of their other players.
