After signing a new contract, JAMES JONES is happy to dedicate his future to Wrexham.
The midfielder has signed a contract that will keep him at The STóK Cae Ras until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Jones, who was acquired from Lincoln City in August 2021, will now be with the Reds for at least a fourth season, with an option for a fifth.
“I am overjoyed,” Jones added.
“It’s a fantastic club with everything going on and a fantastic group of lads, staff, and fans.”
“Everything about the club is going the right way and it is a pleasure to be a part of it so to be able to extend my stay is fantastic, and I am really pleased to get it done.”
Jones earned his eighth League Two appearance and third consecutive start in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Crawley Town at The Broadfield Stadium.
Wrexham took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to a superb strike from Ollie Palmer, but Phil Parkinson’s side were reduced to ten men midway through the second half when midfielder Andy Cannon was shown a straight red card shortly after coming on as a substitute.
The Reds held on for victory, and Jones applauded his teammates’ tenacity in refusing to surrender an equalizer the Red Devils piled the pressure on.
“It was a tough game,” Jones remarked.
“We had to put in the hard yards, which we did, especially when we were down to 10 men.”
“At that point, the momentum shifts slightly.
“But we have got an honest, hard-working group; you know your team-mates are going to be in the trenches with you and we got over the line.”
The win followed two consecutive draws against Crewe Alexandra and Mansfield Town, with Wrexham being unbeaten in three games against top-eight opponents to move up to seventh in the table, four points behind leaders Notts County.
“I thought we were worth the lead in the first-half,” Jones remarked.
“It was a fantastic finish by Ollie, and it was good enough for three points.”
“It was critical that we won, and there are many positives to take away from it.”
“We have to keep improving all the time in order to keep picking up wins and putting points on the board.”
“It is a tight league and if you string a run together you go flying up the table so it is up to us to do that.”
Wrexham will play in the EFL Trophy tomorrow night, followed by a derby against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.
Parkinson, who saw the Reds beat Newcastle United under 21s in their first group game, has pledged to make changes, but Jones insists the goal is to win again.
“The league is the priority, we are under no illusions about that, but the cup games are important as well,” he said.
