On Saturday, the Cleveland Browns added a running back and a tight end to their active roster. The moves come just one day after the Browns ruled out tight end David Njoku (foot) and running back Pierre Strong (hamstring) against the New York Giants. The Browns announced five roster moves on Saturday, including the acquisitions of running back Gary Brightwell and tight end Blake Whiteheart.
“The Cleveland Browns have added RB Gary Brightwell and TE Blake Whiteheart to the active roster from their practice squad. The team also promoted CB Tony Brown II and TE Geoff Swaim off the practice squad. In addition, the Browns have added LB Nathaniel Watson to the practice squad, according to the team website.

The Giants selected the six-foot-one, 220-pound Brightwell in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. He has appeared in 37 games. He has 41 carries for 164 yards and one touchdown in his career.
Brightwell is scheduled to face his former squad, the Giants, on Sunday. The Arizona Cardinals signed Whiteheart as an undrafted free agent in 2023. The six-foot-four, 247-pound tight end appeared in three games during his NFL career.
Whiteheart has no offensive statistics. He’s played 17 special teams snaps, including eight for the Browns in Week 2. Njoku will miss his second straight game on Sunday. He missed all three days of practice this week due to an ankle issue.
