JUST IN: Former Florida Gators HC Dan Mullen Has Told Florida To Hire Former Tennessee Vols. Head Coach and Sack Billy Napier

Former University of Florida head football coach Dan Mullen claims he advised university executives on who to select to replace him, and it wasn’t current coach Billy Napier.

Mullen proposed that Florida target Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin instead. “Do you know what’s quite funny? When I was let go from Florida a few years ago, they asked me, and I said, ‘Hey, I’d go employ Lane Kiffin right now,'” Mullen told The Zach Gelb Show. “I said, ‘[If] you’re going to get rid of me, I’d go hire Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss right now.'” “He kind of has that…a little bit of that…you know at Florida, they love points.” “He will continue the offence to get points.

He’ll be accompanied by Anthony Richardson, a top five draft pick as quarterback, thus the program’s offensive prospects are promising. There were some talented receivers committed and on the roster, so I believe he would have been a wonderful match from the start.”

If Napier is let go at Florida, Kiffin has already been mentioned as a possible replacement. Mullen, on the other hand, believes Kiffin will be much more difficult to recruit away from Ole Miss now that he has achieved so much success there. “He’s gotten Ole Miss into playoff contention. So I’m not sure if that would interest him.

In the coaching industry, you never know why someone makes a decision. “They’re gonna have their personal or whatever reason to do it, but I think a couple years ago he probably would have taken the job if it were offered to him.”

Time will tell if (or when) Napier is let go after a disastrous two-plus-year stint with the Gators. But if Kiffin is on the board, Mullen would undoubtedly back the hire at his former company.
