The Las Vegas Raiders were widely linked to numerous quarterbacks heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, but Jayden Daniels was the most obvious target. Daniels was recruited by Arizona State’s head coach Antonio Pierce, and the two have remained close since.
Pierce, however, was not the only Raider who thought highly of the Heisman Trophy winner. Wide receiver Davante Adams claimed that he was one of those who wanted to draft Daniels.
“He’s a special player,” Adams said on the September 24 episode of “Up & Adams.” “We were hoping that maybe all the teams didn’t think so and he could slip down to the Raiders a little while ago.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, the Washington Commanders held the second choice in the draft and were all in on Daniels. Even if Las Vegas was eager to make a big trade to move up to No. 2, Washington was not interested. Things only got worse for the Raiders, as six quarterbacks were taken before the team’s pick at number 13.
Las Vegas went with Gardner Minshew, and they’re 1-2, with discussion of a QB change in the coming weeks. Things may have gone very differently for the Raiders if they had been able to sign Daniels.

Daniels has looked the best among the rookie quarterbacks who have started games this season. In reality, he is already on a remarkable run. In two of his three starts, the offence has scored on every drive, discounting kneeldowns.
According to CBS Sports, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees combined for only two of those in their entire careers.
To add insult to injury, Kliff Kingsbury is directing plays for the Commanders, and he was almost the Raiders’ offensive coordinator this offseason before a contract disagreement forced them to split. Daniels appears to be a special player, and he could end up being the top quarterback in the entire 2024 NFL Draft class.
Davante Adams discusses trade rumours.
Following a 36-22 defeat at home to the Carolina Panthers, speculation about an Adams trade has resurfaced. He’s been involved in trade rumours since last year and has had to refute them multiple times.
He had to face the trade talk yet again.
“It’s funny that I have to say it every week for people,” Adams said on the radio show “Up & Adams.” “Sometimes you just get to a point where you’re secure enough in how you feel and who you are to stop worrying about what everyone else is thinking…” At no point have I said, ‘I want to accomplish this, or that.’ I’ve repeated millions of times that if I wanted to achieve anything, I would have left by now.”
While Adams is unlikely to air his complaints publicly, the Raiders must win more games or he will remain in trade rumours. If the season falls apart, Adams may have to be traded at some time. A rebuilding team has no need for an expensive wide receiver who will be 32 in December.
