Internet investigators are questioning Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce’s commitment to keeping star wide receiver Davante Adams after he liked a post implying Adams could leave the team.
While the post appeared to be another speculative essay about Adams’ prospective transfer to generate conversation, several fans noticed something very odd while scrolling through the likes on the social media post.
On Monday, Sports Illustrated’s Michael Fabiano revealed that Pierce liked an Instagram post hinting Adams would be traded to Las Vegas.

Fabiano continued, “Some of my little birds out there are hinting to me that there is a potential he does not play another down for the Raiders and that he might have played yesterday, but the Raiders are attempting to trade him because they believe they can get some value for him. They realize they aren’t going anywhere this year, especially with their current quarterback predicament.”
If Gardner Minshew continues to lead the offence, playoffs are unlikely if we are realistic. However, what kind of return could Adams get right now? His large contract weighs heavy; it is absolutely not affordable. Despite all of the speculation, it is evident that Adams rumours are mostly used to generate views and hits these days.
A simple “like” on social media can cause more outrage than any speech or press conference moment.
While Antonio Pierce’s like on the Instagram picture was most likely an accident, it will raise more doubts about Davante Adams and his uncertain future with the organization. Adams, a six-time Pro Bowler, has been the subject of trade talk for over a year, and if the Raiders aren’t true contenders by the trade deadline, his probable availability on the market will take centre stage.
Adams, considered “week to week,” has expressed unhappiness with the Raiders both on and off the field, prompting rumours about his future with the organization.
At this point, Adams-related debates and conjecture regarding his future have become an NFL ritual. However, none of it ever materializes, even though Adams has dismissed these “rumours” every offseason since joining the Raiders.
What distinguishes this recent round is that Pierce has apparently joined in on the conversation. Let’s hope it remains humorous rather than becoming more serious.
Davante Adams and the Raiders’ tough season
The Raiders have had a difficult offensive start, relying on experienced backup Gardner Minshew and former Purdue quarterback Aidan O’Connell as primary options.
Las Vegas defeated the Cleveland Browns 20-16, improving their record to 2-2 after a heartbreaking loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 3.
On Sunday, the Raiders’ defence performed admirably, while Gardner Minshew and the offence did enough to clinch the team’s first home victory of the season.
This season, Adams has 18 receptions for 209 yards and a touchdown. His contract runs until 2026, however it has a “out” clause after the 2024 season.
Given this, he could be a midseason rental for a competitive team, allowing them to avoid making a long-term commitment. However, if he impresses, the squad may decide to keep him, creating an interesting predicament.
The 2024 NFL Trade Deadline is November 4. If the Raiders decide to trade Adams, they must do so by that date.
