TRADE BATTLE WON: Packers and NFL Executive Reveals Green Bay Packers Have Own Trade Battle to Sign 6X Pro Bowler In a Blockbuster Trade Ahead of Bills and The Cowboys

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but many on the internet are discussing a Davante Adams trade. It is true! And the best news? It has absolutely nothing to do with the Las Vegas Raiders. While Adams and the Raiders continue to claim that his hamstring will keep him out until the same day he joins the New York Jets, everyone else* is gushing about how well the Green Bay Packers did in trading him.

That one person is Andrew Brandt, who you may remember from his time as the Packers’ general manager. So maybe keep that in mind as you read the rest of this. But Brandt is now writing for Sports Illustrated, and he released a lengthy essay this week about why it may no longer make sense for teams to trade for elite wide receivers.

He begins his post by examining the rippling effects of the Miami Dolphins’ deal for Tyreek Hill and the Raiders’ move for Adams. The argument falls flat, but he praises the Packers, so who cares?!

According to Andrew Brandt, the Davante Adams deal is already a success for the Packers.

“The present scenario with Adams and Las Vegas reminds me of a phrase from the Billy Joel song “A Matter of Trust”: The frigid remains of what began passionately. It was a marriage that began with great hoopla and promise three years ago, when Adams was traded from the Green Bay Packers to Las Vegas for first- and second-round draft picks to play with his college quarterback, Derek Carr. That was then; this is today. In a business where winning is everything, it is now reasonable to claim that the Chiefs and Packers ‘won’ those star receiver trades.

It’s a little strange to look back and realize Adams was dealt for a first- (!!) *and* a second-round pick, especially because people are estimating he’ll get the Raiders a conditional fourth or fifth this year. The Raiders, sir.

But that’s it: the Packers won the trade. Given how their wide receiver room now appears, I can understand why Packers supporters might be scared of letting great wide players depart, but we can all wait and see when that happens. For now, let’s just enjoy a former Packers employee complimenting the team. If they handle business against the Arizona Cardinals this weekend, Green Bay might have a rare three-win week.
