Williams, who is now serving a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy, has endured a difficult period in his career. This follows a six-game suspension in 2023 for breaching the NFL’s gambling rules. Despite these setbacks, head coach Dan Campbell is confidence in the team’s ability to adjust and flourish without him on the field.

Campbell addressed the subject on Wednesday, noting his unhappiness with Williams’ suspension but expressing confidence in the team’s wide receiver depth. Even with Williams injured, Campbell assured reporters that Detroit’s offence would continue to perform well owing to the presence of veteran reserves like as Kalif Raymond and Allen Robinson.
“It’s unclear if Williams will be active this week against the Tennessee Titans,” Campbell stated, according to Pride of Detroit. “But we’ll be prepared either way, due to our deep bench of receivers that includes reserves Kalif Raymond and Allen Robinson.”

Campbell praised Raymond, popularly known as “Leaf,” underlining the team’s trust in him and his efforts over the last few seasons. He also emphasized Robinson’s ability to jump in when necessary, offering a consistent veteran presence.
“Leaf is definitely one of our starters. “He’s a spot starter,” Campbell explained. “We’ve used him enough. Everyone trusts Leaf completely. He’s been here since the beginning. The guy does everything right; he’s clever, competitive, and fast. That’s the other thing: this guy can run, don’t forget. And Allen Robinson, man, he’s going to be carrying a huge load here as well. Williams’ NFL career has been filled with highs and lows. After being taken in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, he was injured for much of his rookie season. Then, in 2023, Williams was suspended for breaking the NFL’s gambling rules. Just as he was regaining momentum in 2024, his new ban has slowed his progress.
Despite these hurdles, Campbell remains optimistic about Williams’ talent and capacity to recover. The Lions head coach has already voiced his belief in Williams’ development and relevance to the team’s future.
“He’s made enormous strides,” Campbell remarked earlier this season. “I recognized that, and I believe the rest of the squad does too. So I believe he will recover better than previously.”
The Lions’ depth will carry them through.
While Williams will miss the next two games, the Lions have enough depth to continue their great season. Kalif Raymond, in particular, has already proven himself reliable, and the team’s chemistry has played a significant role in their success thus far.
