As the Jacksonville Jaguars get ready for their matchup with the Detroit Lions on November 17, head coach Doug Pederson has stated that the “Trevor Lawrence Watch” will go on for a second week. After Lawrence missed the Jaguars’ 12-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Pederson stated that he is unsure of his availability for the game. Although Lawrence’s injury is to his non-throwing shoulder, his condition is still unknown due to a strain to his left shoulder. Pederson stated that following Wednesday’s practice, the squad would have greater clarity.
There is currently no indication that Lawrence will need surgery, the Jaguars coach continued. Despite some conjecture, Pederson ruled out the idea of surgery, stressing that no such conversations have occurred.
The Jaguars have been looking into their backup alternatives because Lawrence’s availability is questionable, especially after Mac Jones had a rough game as a replacement against the Vikings. Jones finished with 111 yards on just 14 of 22 passes, three sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble. The Jaguars acquired C.J. Beathard from the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad as a result of this performance. Although Pederson refrained from committing to Beathard as a possible starter until further information regarding Lawrence’s condition was available, Beathard, who had previously played for the Jaguars, might be a possibility if Lawrence stays out.
Pederson said he was confident Beathard was ready, pointing out that the backup quarterback practices as like he were playing every week. Although Pederson made no assurances on Beathard’s involvement in the match against Detroit, The Jaguars are keeping an eye on the health of offensive lineman Ezra Cleveland, who has been sidelined due to an ankle ailment, in addition to the quarterback issues. Cleveland may resume practice on Wednesday and might play in a limited role, according to Pederson.
Tank Bigsby, a running back, also struggled with an ankle injury during the Vikings game, but he was able to play again. Bigsby’s injury wasn’t serious, according to Pederson, and the team is still optimistic that these important guys will be healthy for the next game against the Lions.
