BREAKING: Packers President Mark Murphy ‘Amazed’ By Success Against The Bears and Has Made a Huge Promise to Packers Player That Has Spark Serious Reactions From NFL World

Mark Murphy spent eight seasons in the National Football League with the Washington Redskins.

Murphy was the Super Bowl champion in 1982. In 1983, he led the NFL in interceptions, earning him first-team All-Pro recognition. He also participated in intense divisional rivalries with the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants.

So Murphy, the Green Bay Packers’ president and CEO since 2007, understands the dynamics of the NFL’s major rivalries.

That’s why Murphy, like many others, has been blown away by his Packers’ performance against the Chicago Bears during the last three decades.

Green Bay defeated Chicago 20-19 on Sunday, marking the Packers’ 11th consecutive victory in a rivalry that stretches back to 1921. This is the longest victory streak in the series’ 103-year history.

The Packers have also improved to 51-15 since Brett Favre came in Green Bay in 1992. The Packers’ domination over the previous 30 years has helped them build a 108-95-6 advantage (including playoffs) in a series that was primarily controlled by the Bears for the first 70 years.

“I look at it from a broader perspective, in the 80s especially, the Bears were dominating us,” Murphy told ESPN. “However, in the grand scheme of things, things are in constant flux. However, having this run with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers has been significant. Matt (LaFleur) has not lost yet. I’m quite amazed. It’s quite fantastic.”
It certainly is.

The Bears, led by head coach Mike Ditka, won 12 of 14 games versus Green Bay from 1985 to 1991, taking an 80-57-6 series lead. What has occurred afterward is nothing short of miraculous.
Mike Holmgren began the fun by going 12-2 versus the Bears (.857) from 1992 to 1998. Holmgren also won his last ten games versus Chicago.

Ray Rhodes was 1-1 (.500), Mike Sherman was 8-4 (.667), and Mike McCarthy had an incredible 19-7 (.731), including a victory over the Bears in the 2010 NFC Championship game.
Joe Philbin was 0-1 as Green Bay’s interim head coach in 2018, and now LaFleur has gone an unbelievable 11-0 against probably his biggest opponent.

Since the start of the 1992 season, the Packers have a whopping.773 winning percentage against Chicago.

“Before Favre, they were way ahead,” Murphy added. “But we’ve come back and it’s great for the league, a great rivalry and games like this just kind of add to the mystique of the rivalry.”

Green Bay’s dominance has relied heavily on quarterback stability.

Favre, who played for Green Bay for 16 years and was a first-ballot Hall of Famer, was 22-10 against Chicago from 1992 to 2007, with a.688 winning percentage.

Amazingly, Rodgers stepped it up a notch.

Rodgers is 25-5 against Chicago, including a 12-1 record in his previous 13 games against the Bears. Rodgers defeated the Packers’ oldest foe in the 2010 NFC Championship Game, beat them with the division on the line in the 2013 regular season finale, and outperformed them in every situation imaginable.

In fact, only two quarterbacks in NFL history have won at least 25 games against a single team with a higher winning rate than Rodgers did versus Chicago.

• Tom Brady was 36-3 against Buffalo (.923).

• Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger went 26-3 versus Cleveland (.897).

Jordan Love moved to 3-0 versus Chicago as the Packers won on Sunday. Even former backup Brett Hundley went 1-0 versus the Bears when he replaced an ailing Rodgers in 2013.

“Man, it’s amazing,” Packers defensive tackle Kenny Clark exclaimed. “It’s the longest rivalry in NFL history, and it generates the most trash talk over the offseason. That is the primary fan base, athletes, or whatever the situation may be. You hear the most trash talk from the Bears, so to put it on them and make history today is incredible.”

Murphy then congratulated teammates and celebrated Green Bay’s latest victory against its archrival in a jubilant locker room.

Murphy will retire next summer, but he recalls enjoying the salad days of this rivalry. He certainly went out with a bang on Sunday.

“It’s really exciting,” said Murphy, who was also the athletic director at nearby Northwestern from 2003 to 2007. “We’ve been extremely blessed. Obviously, Ted Thompson, the former general manager, and Brian Gutekunst, the current general manager, deserve a lot of credit for this. It’s been a lot of joy to participate in so many of these games.
