DEAL AGREED AND CONFIRMED: Padres Have Officially Make a gutsy and Bold Signing of Twins’ 3x All-Star In a Blockbuster Trade.

The San Diego Padres have a formidable rotation, but a recent hypothetical trade takes it to the next level.

The Padres are linked to Cardinals ace Sonny Grey in a trade projection.

CBS Sports’ Matt Snyder saw St. Louis Cardinals ace Sonny Grey as an ideal trade target for the Padres.

Grey is made from the same cloth as Padres players Dylan Cease and Michael King.

Grey consistently performs as a top Major League pitcher. Last season was no exception. The 35-year-old finished 13-9 for the Cardinals. He had a 3.84 ERA and a solid 1.088 WHIP. It was his lowest WHIP since 2019. Gray’s effective body of work was accompanied by a blazing 203 strike outs.

The Padres could use someone of his calibre on their roster. They already have two pitchers with ERAs under 4.00 and 200 or more strikeouts, ace Dylan Cease and reigning All-MLB Second Team honoree Michael King. Grey would be an ideal No. 2 or No. 3 option for the Padres by 2025, and he may even establish himself as their top man.

San Diego would need to examine Gray’s large pay.

Financially, the Tennessee native is entering the second year of his three-year, $75 million contract. In 2025, he’ll make $25 million, with a $30 million club option for 2027. Thus, San Diego would have to decide whether trading one of their more significant contracts to cement their rotation is a key priority or not.
