The Washington Commanders are moving cautiously with Marshon Lattimore. Fans are eager to see the cornerback play in a competitive situation after he was traded from the New Orleans Saints before the deadline. However, those in power are taking every measure to ensure that he is blazing on all cylinders when it matters the most.
Lattimore is currently rehabbing from a hamstring injury he sustained with the Saints earlier this season. He has not been active in the last two games, and his status for Week 12 against the Dallas Cowboys is uncertain.
The sooner Lattimore takes the field, the better Washington’s prospects will be. He’s an elite lockdown cornerback capable of neutralizing the opposition’s most prolific receiving threat. With expectations high following a strong start to his reconstruction, general manager Adam Peters went aggressively to improve the team’s immediate prospects while also keeping the long-term goal in mind.
Washington had a strategy for Lattimore. They understood he was injured and might not be accessible right away. They’re taking it day by day until they can maybe ramp things up. That’s frustrating for fans, but it’s the right call.
Lattimore was spotted jogging on the sideline as Washington prepared for its crucial game against the Cowboys this weekend at Northwest Stadium. Quinn stated that they would assess the situation on Thursday before deciding on a plan of action. This is often the session in which the intensity rises before the practice pace drops on Friday.
Commanders held Marshon Lattimore out to limit his chances of debuting in Week 12.
All eyes were on Washington’s practice to see if the former first-round pick from Ohio State would participate. Quinn confirmed earlier this week that Lattimore’s performance had improved significantly since the mini-bye week. As it turned out, he was not formally participating in practice.
Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post observed Lattimore working alongside the Commanders’ health and conditioning team on the side field while his teammates engaged in more strenuous activities. Nothing has been absolutely ruled out, but this tendency does not bode well for the player’s chances of playing in Week 12 against a legendary division opponent.
The focus shifts to Friday’s session to see if Lattimore is present at all. Whatever he does, whether he plays or not, is a positive step forward. If the Commanders aren’t completely convinced of his capacity to handle a heavier workload, they’ll keep him out of the firing line.
This also raises the likelihood of Lattimore not returning to the lineup until after the bye week. Washington has one game left before its much-needed recovery time, and the Tennessee Titans are not exactly world-beaters. Giving the defensive back more healing time can only assist his cause down the road.
The outcome remains to be seen.
