According to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander confirmed on Thursday that his knee injury is a PCL tear. Alexander injured his knee at the end of the Packers’ Week 8 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and missed Week 9’s game against the Detroit Lions. Following the bye, Alexander attempted to play against the Chicago Bears but left after only 10 snaps.
According to head coach Matt LaFleur, Alexander was always supposed to be on a pitch count, but that plan fell through when he was unable to finish the first half. Instead, cornerback Carrington Valentine played a season-high number of snaps opposite Keisean Nixon, displacing Eric Stokes as the team’s third outside cornerback.
Alexander was a limited participant at practice last week. He has not participated in the Packers’ first two practices this week. Alexander is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. So you can bet that you’ll see plenty of Nixon and Valentine this weekend at Lambeau Field.
According to Alexander, via Schneidman, the cornerback’s knee issue was worsened against the Bears.
“I just gave it a try…” I got out there and s-t, all I could really give was ten plays, and then it happened—I felt something. If you know how (posterior cruciate ligaments) work, they don’t just heal in three weeks, thus extra time was required. I worsened it by going back out there and only playing 10 plays, so we’re just trying to get my knee back to normal.”
