BREAKING: Broncos HC Sean Payton Gives a Concerning Injury Update On Rookie QB Bo Nix Ahead of Week 13

No one involved with the Denver Broncos — coaches, players, fans, or owners — wants to see how the team performs with backup quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson.

History has shown that no NFL franchise wants to be a part of that outcome. That’s why the Broncos’ newest injury report ahead of a Monday Night Football game against the Cleveland Browns in Denver in Week 13 is so troubling, especially since Nix was labelled as a limited participant in Thursday’s practice.

If Nix can pull out a win over the Browns, the Broncos will have a much-needed bye in Week 14.

Bo Nix

“Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix was a limited participant in the Broncos’ Thursday practice with a back injury,” Sports Illustrated’s Bri Aramanthus wrote on November 20. “Last Sunday, the former Oregon Duck was seen applying a heating pad to his lower back during the fourth quarter of Denver’s 29-19 victory over AFC West Division rival Las Vegas Raiders.” It appears that Nix sustained the injury on his second touchdown pass of the game to Courtland Sutton.”

Nix, the No. 12 overall choice in the 2024 NFL draft, has guided the Broncos to back-to-back victories and a 7-5 record, making him one of the NFL’s hottest quarterbacks right now.

Denver is currently in the AFC’s seventh and final playoff slot, with 5 games remaining. The Broncos haven’t been to the playoffs since 2015, when they won Super Bowl 50 in quarterback Peyton Manning’s final season.

Nix Sixth and Final QB Taken in the 2024 First Round.
Nix, who signed a four-year, $18.6 million contract after being drafted, was the sixth and final quarterback selected in 2024, but he has outperformed all of the other quarterbacks, with the exception of Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, with whom Nix appears to be competing for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honours.

The Broncos’ previous NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year winner was running back Clinton Portis in 2002.

Nix had already begun to improve before back-to-back victories over the Atlanta Falcons and the Las Vegas Raiders, and he received a lot of acclaim after a painful 16-14 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10.

“I had Bo Nix as a solid fourth among those rookie quarterbacks,” remarked “Cousin” Sal Iacono on “The Bill Simmons Podcast” on November 11. ” … I’m going to lower Caleb Williams to fourth right now. I’ll put Maye third. I believe Bo Nix is second.

Nix, like every great quarterback, has established a relationship with a certain target. In this example, Sutton is an experienced wide receiver and past Pro Bowler.

On “The Bill Simmons Podcast” on November 24, Bill Simmons stated that Nix carries himself with confidence and does not come across as a rookie. “He’s gotten better week by week. I believe he has chemistry with Courtland Sutton. “I could see them making the playoffs.”

Sutton caught 8 passes for 97 yards and two scores against the Raiders in Week 12. Over the last five games, Sutton has averaged 93.4 receiving yards per game and currently leads the Broncos with 57 receptions for 744 yards and 5 touchdowns.
