In Sydney’s inner west, a Wests Tigers junior has been accused with the murder of underworld figure Dejan “Danny the Serb” Radulvoic.
Radulvoic was discovered with serious head and torso injuries after claims of an assault in Balmain on July 29 of this year.
Paramedics treated the 29-year-old at the site before rushing him to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Police in Austral detained a 19-year-old male named Masei Tavui on Tuesday after conducting a lengthy investigation.
Tavui is said to have been a member of Wests Tigers’ youth ranks for the past four years, and he competed in the under-19s championship last year.
He was apparently not tied to the club until 2024, and his younger brother is also said to be a member of the club’s development squads.
Tavui was charged with murder and remanded into custody until his next appearance in Liverpool Local Court on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old did not ask for bail and will stay in custody on remand until his next court appearance in December.
Radulvoic was allegedly hurt during an encounter with two males who fled the scene in a white Jeep.
The vehicle was later discovered burnt out on Preston Ave in Five Dock with a handgun inside.
Radulvoic was also shot, according to a post-mortem examination, and homicide detectives were called in to investigate the alleged murder.
Another individual has been charged as an accessory to the murder and is still in custody. Investigations are also continuing.
