Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, is one of the most sought-after coaching prospects this year.
According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Wednesday, the Raiders are apparently getting “a lot of momentum” on hiring Johnson, despite the fact that he has gotten attention for almost every head coaching position.
In a recent episode of The Insiders, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirmed the Raiders-Johnson rumour.
“The people who are associated with the Raiders’ job,” Rapoport stated. “I’m talking other candidates, I’m talking agents, people around the NFL, there does seem to be an acknowledgement that Ben Johnson is the leading candidate and there’s a lot of people who think, frankly, he’s getting it.”The Raiders aren’t finished yet. They most definitely haven’t
not fulfilled the conditions necessary for them to appoint a coach, and he isn’t even permitted to be hired until the end of his season, but it does appear that’s the way things are going.”Antonio Pierce, who was sacked after the regular season concluded, would be replaced by Johnson if he were to eventually take over in Las Vegas.
However, Johnson and the Lions may have a postseason run ahead of them before then. Following their first-round bye, Detroit will play the Washington Commanders in their postseason opener on Saturday, January 18, starting at 8 p.m. ET at Ford Field.
